Always stick together and check on friends who have been drinking. Student Safety Partners (formerly called CSOs) will escort you safely on your walk home: (805) 893-2000
If someone is unresponsive or in danger, call 911 immediately. California’s Good Samaritan Law protects you and the person in need from minor drug or alcohol charges when calling for medical help.
Additional safety tips from our partners at UCSB Student Life:
Just Call 911!
Know the warning signs for alcohol poisoning and drug overdose:
- Alcohol Poisoning: Won’t wake up, vomiting, slow/irregular breathing, changes in skin color, drowsiness/confusion, seizure, cold to the touch
- Drug Overdose: Won’t wake up, pinpoint or large pupils, slow/irregular breathing, slow or erratic pulse, changes in skin color, drowsiness/confusion, gurgling sounds, seizure, cold to the touch

Be aware that combining alcohol with other drugs, even prescribed medication, can be lethal. Call 911 if you are concerned about your friend. There are no repercussions for those calling for help. California law and UC policy provide immunity to those who seek medical assistance for another person experiencing an alcohol or drug-related overdose.
